Family Therapy
We help families communicate and support each other more effectively.
What Is Family Therapy?
Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy where all members of the family meet as a group with a licensed therapist. The goal of family therapy is to improve communication, strengthen relationships, and work to overall enhance functioning within the family system. During sessions, a therapist can observe relationship dynamics and patterns of communication and offer healthier responses and behaviors. The therapist can also encourage active listening, facilitate difficult conversations, and help individual members of the family understand each other better.
Who Should Be Included In a Family Therapy Session?
Anyone considered part of the family can attend family therapy sessions. This can include anyone close to the group—parents, children, siblings, partners, grandparents, close friends, or other trusted individuals who provide long-term support. In family therapy, every member of the group is considered an important part of the whole family dynamic, so it’s important for all members of the family unit to attend and participate in family counseling.
